The Xbox had the advantage that many games, especially from Microsoft itself, were only released on this platform.

This progress continued with the Xbox 360 and so did the Halo series. Halo 3 is with now over 8 million copies sold the most succesfull game of the subsequent generation. The quantity and quality of games have held their high quality and kept up with expectations along each step of the ever increasing and more complicated developments of this market. Publishers like activision, EA or Rockstar games work close together with Microsoft.
